Make Breakthroughs Possible
Dr. Brianne Soulen is a marine pollution scientist and a mom of two. She’s leading the search at UNT to uncover how forever chemicals are affecting reproductive and growth effects of forever chemicals on an at-risk species of seal. This research would inform the scientific community on what that means for us eating animals affected by forever chemicals and breathing air polluted by forever chemicals. Brianne’s work is more than science; it’s about protecting us and environment that feeds and inhabits us.
This research is urgent. It helps us understand how pollution is impacting the health of our shared environment and gives us the tools to fight back. But it can’t happen without your help. Every dollar brings us closer to a safer future for everyone.
What does this research involve?
Dr. Soulen will analyze 30 different pollutants in each sample, screening for harmful compounds and measuring their concentrations. She will also examine the levels of four different hormones to understand reproductive and growth impacts.
To complete this work, samples must be divided for multiple analyses — requiring around 32 tubes to split 16 samples for both pollutant and hormone testing. Every step is critical to uncovering how these chemicals impact marine life and, ultimately, human health.

$10
Tubes for Sample Storage
Each gift at this level unlocks the ability to purchase a test tube that would store samples as she divides each one for the different analyses.
$20
1 Hormone Sample Analysis
Each gift at this level unlocks an analysis on one of 16 hormone samples to ensure quality control of the sample and use programming that analyzes hormone levels.
$50
Pollutant Sample
Each gift at this level unlocks the ability to secure a pollutant sample that is key to gathering all possible forever chemicals impacting the at-risk species of seals.
$100
1 Pollutant Sample Analysis
Each gift at this level unlocks an analysis on one of the 16 pollutant samples to identify and categorize the pollutant which is key to understanding effects and developing analysis of data.
$120
1 Full Analysis
Each gift at this level unlocks a full analysis on pollutants and hormone samples to develop data on the impact pollutants have on growth hormones.
